Send a Message of Support to Florian
STOP PRESS – On 2 December, Florian Willet was released from the Swiss prison where he had been held since 23 September at the behest of the public prosecutor in the Canton of Schaffhausen.
On 2 December the prosecutor announced that ‘new evidence’ had emerged, and that Florian was no longer being investigated for murder. Given there is still no autopsy report, and given the prosecutor has 2x rejected the testimony of the only other eye witness to the first use of Sarco (that of Philip Nitschke), one can only wonder what this new evidence can be?
Philip Nitschke has queried why it took 70 days of forced incarceration for the prosecutor to acknowledge the facts of what transpired back on 23 September: ie. the Sarco worked as expected and provided a grateful seriously ill woman with a peaceful, elective death.

Back in July, Donald Trump claimed that he ‘took a bullet for democracy’.
Regardless of what you think of the American election, perhaps the same analogy can be used in regard to Florian Willet.
By volunteering, for purely altruistic reasons, to be the sole person present when the Sarco was used for the first time in Switzerland, Florian has ‘taken a bullet’ for the rest of us.
Who do we mean by the rest of us?
The rest of us is everyone who:
- stands behind the fundamental belief that a good death is a human right.
- believes that the Sarco is a welcome new development for a humane, peaceful passing.
- urges Switzerland to welcome the arrival Sarco in their progressive, liberal country.
- thinks that, one day, they might wish to use the Sarco in Switzerland or at home.
One way to support Florian is to send him messages while he is waiting patiently in jail for Swiss Justice.
A Word of Warning
- All letters will be translated into German, and then read / censored by the Swiss prosecutor
- The prosecutor has sole discretion over what gets through to Florian.
Be that as it may, let’s show Florian our gratitude. Let’s cheer his day.
Let there be no doubt, history will treat this man kindly.
