Qantas Dumps Luggage of 150 Passengers at Wellington Airport in Preference to Carrying Bags of Absent British Cricket Team.

A Qantas decision to load the luggage of the UK touring cricket team instead of the luggage of paying passengers on flight QF161 from Sydney to Wellington on Sunday has caused chaos for those involved such as Dr Philip Nitschke.

Dr Nitschke has made a last minute dash to New Zealand to support Exit’s former Wellington Chapter Coordinator Suzy Austen in her trial in the NZ High Court tomorrow. Suzy Austen is facing one charge of assisting a suicide and two charges of importing Nembutal into NZ.

It was not until passengers began querying the whereabouts of their bags that Qantas ground staff made an announcement that ‘due to weight restrictions’ ‘some passengers” luggage had needed to be left in Sydney.

Unfortunately for Qantas, the British Cricket Team’s physiotherapist was on the flight and had been forthcoming about the fact that the players’  very heavy and very substantial baggage had been on board.

At no time did Qantas disclose the reason for the weight restriction as explained to passengers.

Dr Nitschke has been left in shorts for his attendance at the High Court tomorrow.

He says he hopes the Judge will allow him to attend despite attire which, some would say, could be seen as disrespectful to the Court.

As far as Qantas goes, Dr Nitschke says he expects Qantas to have the honesty to admit what they have done and apologise to the passengers they have treated so badly.

‘Apologise for putting the luggage of the English Cricket Team above the rights of Australian paying passengers. And explain why this is the right thing for Australia’s national carrier to do!’

As a Qantas Frequent Flyer of 20 years, he says he has had enough of this deception and lies.
